Most of our workshops require moderate physical activity. These activities can include exciting hikes to view wonderful scenery or other such physical endeavors. If your lifestyle is fairly sedentary, you might want to begin walking a mile or two a day a couple of weeks before the workshop to prep yourself for an active workshop.  While every effort is made to ensure comfort, and minimize exertion, this can prove too difficult for some. Please feel free to discuss any concerns or special needs with the photo workshop leader(s). You are under no obligation to participate in all activities, and every effort will be made to accommodate your requests.  Weather can be extreme.  Dress accordingly and wear appropriate footwear.

How Skilled Do You Need To Be?

Our tours are ideal for photographers of all levels. We provide patient, enthusiastic instruction for beginning and intermediate photographers…advanced shooters will find opportunities to add considerably to their current files and push their photographic skills to the next level.  Regardless of your skill level, refresh your photography skills.  Spend some time with your camera manual to familiarize yourself with your camera controls to save time in the field.  You don’t want to miss that one in a million shot.

What’s Included:

Lodging:

Your trip fee for the Iconic Image Workshop:  American Cowboy includes lodging in accommodations that are modern and comfortable and close to the action. Due to the authentic nature of the workshops, accommodations vary by location and topic. Lodging is double occupancy unless otherwise noted (inquire for the single room supplement) on a working Colorado cattle ranch. All participants stay in one of three cabins, a bunkhouse, or a loft bunkhouse (each cabin houses 4 guests). Theses cabins reflect the rustic nature of the ranch while providing a comfortable stay with modern amenities.

For other workshops, our normal tendency is to find lodging in convenient locations that is as economical as possible, and that often gives the participants a better “feeling” of the area being visited.  Although it is not required that all participants stay at these facilities, it is easier to coordinate shooting schedules if everyone is at the same locale.  Those who select other lodging are responsible for being at the various meeting places on time.  For other workshops, registrants are responsible for their own lodging charges and, except where specifically noted otherwise in the descriptions of the workshop, lodging costs are not included in the workshop fees quoted. An estimate of lodging costs, based on our best information at the time, is included for your convenience.

Transportation:

Transportation during the workshop can be added for an additional fee as noted in workshop description (limited to early requests by the number of participants as noted in a specific workshop description), and one scheduled pickup and drop off at the listed airport can also be added for an additional fee as noted, which in all cases is significantly less than the cost of renting a vehicle.  We usually use full size Ford vans that are configured for seven people and are very comfortable, or, occasionally, a rental car that can fit four participants comfortably.  There is a lot of important discussion that occurs in the vans between shooting locations, and we feel very strongly that it can be an important part of the learning experience to be a part of that activity.  Any photography related subject is fair game in the vans – ask whatever you like.  Having said that – we understand that there are those who would prefer to drive their own vehicles for various reasons and that is why we have set the maximum number of participants at eight when our vans will only hold six.  The seats in the vans are available for the first registrants who request them and others may attend only if they supply their own transportation.

Meals:

Your trip fee includes breakfast, lunch and dinner for each day of the tour, and we try to eat well.  Meals are planned around the best shooting times, and we anticipate burning many calories while pushing the shutter button. Most meals will feature local specialties and have local flare. Snacks and beverages are available, just in case the photography is so fine we lose track of time. If you have any special dietary limitations, please notify us in advance.

For the Iconic Image Workshop:  American Cowboy, the lodging, meals and drinks are included in the workshop fee quoted to you.  Otherwise, the lodging, meals and drinks are not included in the fees quoted, unless specified.  All park entry fees, or similar fees, are the responsibility of the participant.

Critiques:

Participants are encouraged to bring 10 samples of their work for a helpful, professional critique and/or just to share with the group.

Our standard workshop payment policy, for our published prices, requires a 25% initial non-refundable deposit for reservation of space. Your payment balance is due 60 days prior to the workshop date.
