Though she originally went to school to become a landscape architect, Amanda Switzer became a fishing guide after working for one year too long in an office. Unhappy with the ho-hum buzz of everyday work, she thanked her boss for not firing her, politely quit, bought a flats boat and started a flyfishing-guide business in her home waters of eastern Long Island. She’s 25 years into it and now she’s building a new rod company – think she’s got a few stories to tell?

This isn’t the first time we’ve invited the Catch Magazine guys onto the show. Last time we got a quick chance to figure out who they were and what they were up to. Since then they’ve made some big improvements to Catch and had some more great adventures, so we’ll find out what they’ve been up to on today’s Fish Schtick.

Darren Gallaher is a friend from Chattanooga, Tennessee, or pretty close to there. He’s been fishing competitively since he was just a little kid, kind of a bass prodigy. As an adult he guides and fishes competitively, he’s a spokesperson for a number of brands like Berkley and Bass Pro Shops, and has even held a tournament director title. But the reason we wanted to have him on the show more than anything is that he’s a great guy who loves to fish and has a million good stories. Plus I just like the way he talks.

Curt Redden lives in Hattiesburg, Mississippi and loves fishing, art, and promoting catch & release for trophy fish. It was a natural combination to produce a gallery of beautiful fish art and to give anglers who wanted to hang a trophy on the wall an opportunity to do it through original painted art. Curt is involved with conservation, fishing and art in a handful of different ways – and he’s had time in the media, too. We’ll dig into his story today on The Fish Schtick.

It’s been a busy summer and we are just getting a chance to catch up.

Jim Hudson is the man behind the Learn 2 Fish Fishing Schools – you heard about those a couple weeks ago on our episode with Pete Maina. He’s also the man behind the Ice Roads “On Ice” Clinics – we talked about those during our Ice Fishing Spectacular. If you saw our Ice Fishing 301 video, you saw Jim talking about new products from the Clam Corporation. When he’s not running one of these schools, he’s guiding on Chequamegon Bay and the Apostle Islands on Lake Superior out of Bayfield, Wisconsin. They’re chasing lake trout surpassing 30 pounds, walleyes well over 10, and smallmouth bass over 5 are not uncommon. Jim is on the water when it’s 90 degrees in August and 20 below in January, so there’s a lot to learn from him.

Pete Maina is North America’s number one authority in Muskie and Pike fishing. Pete is one of the hosts of The Next Bite TV on Versus, and has had a guest appearance on a bunch of other shows. He has authored two books and countless articles and videos. He is also a professional photographer, guided for many years, and has spoken all across North America.

Andrew Bennett runs Deneki Outdoors, which operates fly fishing lodges in Alaska, British Columbia, the Bahamas and Chile. They also have one of the freshest, richest blogs on the internet, and you get their daily dose right in your e-mail inbox. We’re going to get Andrew to unload some fish stories from some of the greatest destinations on the planet today, and we know he’s got them because we read ‘em every day.

Our guest today is Heather Sieber, Communication & Education Director at the RBFF – the Recreational Boating and Fishing Foundation. These are the “Angler’s Legacy people,” the “Take Me Fishing” people. This week is National Fishing & Hunting Day, so it’s a timely opportunity to have Heather here to talk about what each of us can do to introduce new people to the sport of fishing – and why it matters.
