SHOW NOTES

Ben Hobbins joins us today on the Fish Schtick. Ben has recently been awarded an amazing honor – his lure technology invention was chosen at one of Popular Science’s Top 10 Inventions for 2009.  His lure invention – the Ironclads Lure – means big things for the outdoors and conservation. We’ll find out why on today’s Fish Schtick.

Ben’s work is also the focus of today’s conservation segment, through his efforts with the Lake Delton project. A catastrophe covered extensively by national and regional news media, Lake Delton was completely drained into the Wisconsin River following massive flooding in 2008. Lake Delton is an integral part of the success of the Wisconsin Dells, one of the largest tourist destinations in the Midwest . Totally de-watered, it was declared a Federal Disaster Area. Ben leads a team to restore Lake Delton , so we’ll talk to him about that today on the Fish Schtick.

Guest Intro / Interview
Ben Hobbins is CEO of ‘Lake Resources Group’ the company that manufactures IronClads lures. IronClads look, feel, and have the action of a traditional soft plastic lure, but they’re very different. Those differences earned them recognition as one of the Top 10 Greatest Inventions of 2009 in Popular Science magazine, an award rarely given to a product in the fishing industry.

Ben – welcome to the Fish Schtick. Before we find out what makes IronClads so special, tell us about your best trip to the water so far this year.
-          Explain what makes an IronClad different than a traditional soft plastic lure
-          Why is that important
-          What was it about them that impressed Popular Science?
-          Yeah, but do they work?
-          If they’re so tough, what about when we break the line? Don’t they stay in the environment forever?
-          What do you say to the biodegradable bait advocates? Aren’t you developing something like this?
-          How much do they cost?
-          Where can we get them?

Conservation
Ben – tell us about what happened to Lake Delton ?
What does Lake Delton mean to you, and to the region?
What has been done?
What still needs to be done?
How can people help?
