Montana Troutfitters gives their nod to the Missouri river as a 4-star winter fishery. They say, “the Mo should be one of your go to’s in the winter months … being a tailwater you have warmer flows than your freestones do.” All of the Montana freestone rivers are filling with ice and slush as we speak.
In Maryland, the Chesapeake Bay has striped bass moving down the coast along the Ocean City area beaches. The season’s closing but white perch and near the Susquehanna, yellow perch, are still a good option.
Jay’s Bass Bustin’ Guide Service in Florida reports that the Kissimmee Chain of Lakes is excellent right now. A day of fishing might mean 30 bass averaging 6 pounds. Fish are being caught outside the grass line in 4-5 ft of water, and the best bite is in the afternoon.

Ivan Orsic may be better known to the internet set as Yukon Goes Fishing. His work has popped up everywhere – the Orvis Friday Fly Fishing Film Festival, Fly Fishilicious, Chi Wulff, lots more.
At is own blog – Yukon Goes Fishing – his bio reads like this. Brace yourself. “I’m a graduate student studying fluvial geomorphology, applied hydrology, and environmental geochemistry at a fine institution in Missoula, MT. Originally from the Atlantic Coastal Plain of the eastern US, I have always been a fan of all sorts of fishing. However, during a “family” trip up to Alaska when I was in high school, I fell in love with the sport of fly fishing.
That’s turned into a pretty sweet set of video blogs and the one that made us finally track him down for the show: Silver & Gold featuring Yukon Cornelius. It’s a perfect Fish Schtick holiday treat.

Around the world of fishing in 120 seconds – December 16, 2011
Good news for little fish in Colorado. Two rare minnows are once again swimming in the Arkansas River thanks to pioneering research efforts at the John Mumma Native Aquatic Species Restoration Facility. Plains minnows and suckermouth minnows are on the threatened and endangered lists, but new rearing and stocking efforts have them on a path to recovery.
Texas has a new team-format fishing tournament series in 2012. The all-new Texas Team Trail circuit kicks off March 10th, 2012 at Sam Rayburn. 4 qualifying events and a year-end Championship.
Shreveport, Louisiana – if you see a Bassmaster Classic contender on the waters of the Red River, they are out of order! The Red River closed to pre-fishing this week for the 49 anglers headed to the Superbowl of fishing.
Rhinelander, Wisconsin hosts the annual North American Ice Fishing Circuit Championships – the Bassmaster Classic of ice fishing is on the water this weekend.
In Washington, DC – The American Sportfishing Association (ASA), and other groups are begging for the Fishery Science Improvement Act. Without it, they say that the new catch limits put in place by the end of 2011 for hundreds of the nation’s marine fisheries will be based on little or no scientific data.
Across the country in Washington State, how about a little Christmastime clam dig? Washington clam diggers will get another chance to dig some fresh razor clams for the holidays during an opening December 22-23 at four ocean beaches.
In Pavillion, Wyoming – for the first time, the EPA this week officially linked fracking to groundwater pollution. The announcement is the first step in the process of the EPA opening up their findings to public review.
This week’s Stewardship Tip: Give yourself a buffer. Like, don’t get up the tailpipe of the car in front of you. A little more space means you go a little easier on the brakes, which means less wear on ‘em, better mileage, and all that’s better for our waters. PLUS – might save you from gettin’ in an accident.

Guest Intro / Interview
We watched your “Best of 2011” video and you caught some Alaska-caliber trout in Montana. What trip stands out as the best one of the year?
It seems like you have the camera rolling a lot – have there been times when things happened and the camera wasn’t rolling, and you wished it was?
Other than fishing, what have you caught on film that has helped make a good story?
Yukon Cornelius was a miner in the Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer Christmas special. What’s the tie-in with you, that you took this on as your online persona?
Are you a videographer and storyteller first, or a fly fisherman first?
Sounds like you got into fly fishing on a trip to Alaska – want to tell that story?
How about now – is it fly or nothing, or do you still have an interest in other kinds of fishing?
Conservation Topic
Have heard you say that “there’s more going on than just Pebble Mine.” So – what is it?
