Today’s show is brought to you by SPOT HUG – a Satellite-based GPS Security System that protects your boat from theft while delivering everyday peace of mind when you need it…with additional support from www.GreenTackle.com.

Guest Intro

Across the country people are socked in with snow, so we wanted to go somewhere warm for today’s Schtick. On today’s Schtick you’ll meet Captain John Hendrickson from sunny and delicious San Diego, California. John is full of good stories about his adventures fly fishing for mako sharks with Conway Bowman, going face-to-face with black bears in Pennsylvinia during Great Lakes Steelhead trips, carp fishing in SoCal, and much, much more. It’s going to be a very fun show – and our friends at SPOT HUG are making it possible.

SPOT HUG works on boats in places like San Diego, and Florida, and the Great Lakes – or anywhere you have a boat that needs anti-theft protection. Of course, it also does for you what SPOT does when you’re in places that cell phone coverage can’t reach, in the event that you need help.

Around the world of fishing in 120 Seconds
Good news – The fishing is fine in many parts of the Louisiana coast, and winter is a great time to head south to chase redfish and speckled trout. Especially the water around New Orleans – make it a vacation in February and visit the Bassmaster Classic!

Bad news – the ENTIRE marsh around the Gulf didn’t go without it’s damages. Friday, Louisiana Department of Wildlife Secretary Robert Barham and Plaquemines Parish President Billy Nungesser toured Bay Jimmy — one of the areas still severely damaged by thick layers of weathered oil and matted marshland. Desperate need of a comprehensive clean-up and recovery plan is obvious. Points to desperate need for better energy solutions for – and by – all of us.

Prescott, Arizona – The last time rainbow trout were stocked at Watson Lake, John F. Kennedy was still president and landing on the moon was still seven years in the future. This week, that changes as the Arizona Game and Fish Department dumps in a truckload of rainbows. Some might even be double rainbows. Oh…man…What does this mean?

In the North Country – Recycled Fish friend and legendary angler Chip Leer is the new host of the FLW Walleye Tour – way to go on the new gig, Chip!

Georgia, Missouri, Alabama and Texas – they’re all set to host PAA Tour level events this year, and registration to be an observer opened up this week. So what’s it like to spend a day on the water with an elite pro during a top level tournament? You can know – sign up to fish with ‘em at FishPAA.com. One more reason that fishing is better than golf – you can’t go golfing with Tiger.

On your TV – Altitude Sports & Entertainment, a subsidiary of Kroenke Sports Enterprises and Insight Sports bought a 50% interest in WFN: World Fishing Network USA. Should be able to start seeing WFN in more places now.

This week’s Stewardship Tip – Photograph your catch UNDER WATER. It can make super cool photos, and it’s best for the fish. Waterproof cameras have gotten really affordable.

New year is a good time for turning over a new leaf, and Green Tackle can help you do it in terms of your tackle box. Stuff like biodegradable fishing line or lures, non-toxic weight and baits. But they also sell stuff like Shimano reels for less than you’ll find them in your local tackle shop.

Guest Intro / Interview

Captain John Hendrickson is a character in the world of fishing who grew up in Pittsburgh, PA. He knows his Great Lakes steelhead, but he’s also lived in the Rockies where he tricked some trout, loves big tarpon on the flats of Florida, and now lives and guides in sunny, warm San Diego where he has all kinds of madcap adventures chasing fish like carp and sharks and stuff.

How’s fishing where you are this time of year?

We had Conway Bowman on the show a while back, and we learned a little about the shark on the fly game, but Conway’s showed up in lots of media and stuff – want to tell a good story on your boss?

You’re doing a lot of trips for Makos these days – let’s hear about that.
You also do the carp deal – do people get as amped about that as they do about gigantic sharks?

We hear you’re pretty crazy about NFL Football, and you got to take Dennis Green, former head coach of the Arizona Cardinals out for a day.

Conservation

Access is a big deal where you are in California, but also complicated back in PA. Thoughts on that?
