Guest Intro
Kyle Kosovich runs Longboat Outfitters down in the Ozark Mountains of Missouri and Arkansas. He takes serious anglers on deepwoods adventures in a historic watercraft for multi-day trips through the wilderness locked in the middle of America. They float the clear Ozark streams for trout, smallmouth, and a host of other species blending fishing and history with some pretty cool experiences. Kyle was also involved with the Recycled Fish 24 Hour Fish-A-Thon – his team won, and they’ll be packing their fly rods for a trip to Spring Bay Resort. While on the water, they encountered an epic storm that could have killed them – we’ll get the story on today’s Fish Schtick.

Around the world of fishing in 120 Seconds
Across the country: More Ethanol – 50% more – may be added to your gasoline, if pending legislation passes in the next few days. That could be bad for boat motors, so BoatUS and other organizations are asking for more testing prior to passing the law.
In Minnesota: 3M – the company behind Scientific Anglers and last week’s Fish Schtick – just bought Ross Reels.
In Texas: The Toyota Texas Bass Classic is on Lake Conroe again, the only battle between the pros from the BASS, FLW and PAA tours. Live country music concerts every day, and the championship for the PAA – proceeds benefit Texas Parks and Wildlife.
Arkansas Democrat Blanche Lincoln put forth a bill to prevent an over-arching ban on lead fishing tackle this week.
In Washington State: Fishing is closed in Lake Sammamish and Lake Washington due to poor returns of coho salmon.
California’s Water Wars – Governor Schwartzenegger fired Mike Sustos, the guy in charge of Fish & Wildlife, 18 days after his appointment. The Governor wants water for cities, farms and industry, Sustos wanted water for fish, Governator wins.
In North Carolina: 22 popular trout streams are now on the ‘delayed harvest’ schedule, meaning all catch and release, single barbless hooks, artificial lures until next spring.
This week’s Stewardship Tip – One way to help salmon is to buy and eat only wild, not farm-raised fish. These new GMO fish? They make us real nervous.

Guest Intro / Interview
Kyle Kosovich from Longboat Outfitters has done work recently with Project Healing Waters, he’s guided Zach Matthews from the Itinerant Angler, and he and two friends formed Team Longboat to fish in the Recycled Fish 24 Hour Fish-A-Thon. They were the top fundraisers, but fishing was tough …
Tell us about what happened with your 24 hours on the water?
Let’s hear about the Longboat – what is it?
You call the Ozarks home, and both Brian and I have connections there too. What makes that such a valuable destination?
I’m not sure if people see the ozarks as a fishing destination. Within
2 hour drive(not unlike the western mountains) I can flyfish nearly every fresh water game/non game species fly fisherman are after. Striped bass. Walleye. White bass. Large mouth. Small mouth. Goggle eye. Musky. Pickerel. Flathead. Channel cat. Carp. Gar. Rainbows. Browns. Brooks. Cutts. All within a short drive of Springfield.
People like to talk about “back in the day” before dams changed the Ozarks. It’s a world-famous destination now, but what made if famous then?
A longboat is an unusual craft, but you have another idea for the rivers next year.
What’s a trip with Longboat Outfitters like – and what’s being planned?

Conservation
Kyle – you’re a biologist by training and when you’re not guiding now, you’re studying. What’s your next degree going to be in?
From your perspective as a guide, biologist and student of geology – what are the issues facing the waters you fish, and how do we fix them?
