Shaw Grigsby is a bass fishing icon. He’s been a professional angler for over 25 years, and wherever he shows up, so does a crowd of fans. He’s won over $1.5 Million fishing bass tournaments. His show, “One More Cast,” can be seen every week on Versus. His book, “Bass Master Shaw Grigsby: Notes on Fishing and Life,” is the only book on bass fishing ever published by the National Geographic Society. And in just a couple of weeks, he fishes his 12th Bassmaster Classic on Lay Lake near Birmingham, Alabama.

Around the world of fishing in 120 Seconds

Good News: Patagonia is out with its latest grant awards in the World Trout program. They’ve given away another $75,000 to help fish and fisheries around the globe. Two thumbs way up.

Bad News: VHS, one of the most deadly viruses for fish, had been identified in all of the Great Lakes except Superior. It was just found in Lake Superior. Clean, inspect and dry, everybody.

Rockport, Washington – 8th Annual Spey Days has been announced for March 26. Amazing lineup of presenters – details at speydaysnw.com.

Off the Southern California cost, epic numbers of Humbolt Squid are bending rods and leaving arms burning, these massive squid are bigger than a Labrador Retriever. They’re invasive, so hook ‘em and invite ‘em home for dinner.

Harrisburg, PA – Fly Fisherman magazine – the biggest Fly Fishing mag in North America – is downsizing its staff. So long to Associate Publisher Linda Wood and Managing Editor Geoff Mueller.

From Washington, DC – the President’s 2011 Federal Budget is out for review, it includes a request of $1.6 billion for the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. That’s a big number, it includes money for Climate Change Adaptation, safeguards for endangered species during renewable energy development, ecosystem restoration, land acquisition, and a Youth in Natural Resources Initiative.

This week’s Recycled Fish Stewardship Tip: Encourage the publisher of your favorite magazines to print on recycled paper. A single magazine making the switch would mean 50,000 more trees a year in our forests, and 20 million gallons less wastewater.

Brian’s Quote of the Week

“With every trip I collect new mementos, though few are collected in scrapbooks. And all who fish for bass across the land collect them too. They are the images from first light to last and from first fish to last. And we’d share them in a minute. Some recall particular triumphs, often preserved in snapshots and clippings, while others we tend to hide, at least until the time we’re ready to laugh about them. Daybreaks, canebrakes, heartbreaks, muggy nights, and foggy mornings. A hundred things that worked, and a thousand more that should have. That’s bass fishing.” —-George Kramer

Guest Intro / Interview

Shaw Grigsby is a hero to many, including me. It’s not just his prowess as a bass angler, it’s his incredible personality, his kind spirit and his flawless reputation. He’s a man of convictions and faith, which he makes known, and he is just a heck of a nice guy. Plus he’s a legendary stick – this guy catches fish. Shaw, welcome to The Fish Schtick.

Shaw, any good fishing adventures lately?

Being a professional bass angler is about a lot more than going fishing. What’s it involve, and what’s your story of getting to where you are in the sport?

Part of the game is endorsements and sponsorships, you’ve been featured in quite a bit of marketing – what are some brands and products that you’re passionate about right now?

You’ve got a good season ahead on “One More Cast,” tell us about some of these places you went:

What’s the story behind this Indiana Bass fishery?
You talk about loving sight fishing – did you get to do any of that on Lake Ontario’s waters?
A lot of our listeners are into fly fishing, and fly fishing the salt – what was your Redfish experience like?

I know people who have read your book and it’s had a big impact on them – will readers find in this book?

The Bassmaster Classic is coming up. You’re not just someone who has seen it happen, you have the unique perspective of having both fished in it – 11 times – and provided commentary on it. What’s it all about?

Conservation

We’ve been talking about the cold weather that hit Florida and what that has meant for inshore gamefish in salt water – you seen any of that, Shaw?

Water issues have been a big deal over the past year, and years in Florida – especially quantity of water – is it effecting any of the areas that you fish?

Any issues that strike home with you, or matters that you want to raise the flag on?
