Sad News: Jack Gartside has died of lung cancer. Gartside was a legendary American fly tyer and fly fishing author. Hundreds of thousands of fish have been tricked by his fly patterns, and hundreds of thousands more still will be.
Montrose, Colorado – Did you see the How It’s Made episode on The Science Channel featuring Ross Reels? I did. If you missed it, it will be showing about 1,000 more times.
Benton, Kentucky – the PAA has announced the four dates for its tournaments in 2010. Locations still TBD. Entry fees are $2500 per tournament, but you’re fishing for a top prize of $50,000.
Washington, DC – ASA president Gordon Robertson appeared before Senate asking for fish habitat dollars. It’s the National Fish Habitat Conservation Act. It would be great news for fisheries, and great news for fishing.
Across the ice belt, the lakes are finally locking up with ice. Reports of 2 – 3 inches of fishable ice and a great early ice bite are coming in from Northern Iowa, Minnesota, Wisconsin and the Dakotas. All this heavy snow on top of the ice will make things sketchy and slow the freezing process, be careful out there.
